PwC runs one of the largest graduate recruitment operations in professional services, and its process is almost entirely strengths-based. If you're targeting a 2027 intake, timing and preparation for the game-based assessments are the two things that decide your outcome.
When do applications open?
In previous years, PwC has typically opened graduate and internship applications in early autumn, around September. Like the other Big Four firms, PwC recruits on a rolling basis — roles close when they're filled, which for competitive programmes can be well before any advertised deadline. Apply early or risk finding your chosen programme already closed.
Dates change each cycle. Check PwC's official careers page for this year's exact timeline.
The PwC application process
1. Online application. Standard details plus motivation questions. PwC screens for genuine interest in the specific service line — "I want to work at a Big Four firm" is not an answer.
2. Online assessments (game-based). PwC's assessments are game-style: short interactive challenges measuring cognitive ability, decision-making, and behavioural fit. They look nothing like a traditional test, which is precisely why candidates underprepare for them. You get one shot, so walk in knowing the format.
3. Video interview. Pre-recorded strengths-based questions. You get limited prep time per question and one attempt at each answer. Structure beats polish — have a framework ready for "tell me about a time" prompts.
4. Assessment centre. The final stage, typically including a group exercise, a written task, and a partner interview. PwC is assessing collaboration and commercial thinking as much as technical skill.
The game-based assessment is the silent killer. Candidates treat it casually because it feels like a game — and then never hear back.
How to apply
- Find your programme on PwC's careers site — filter carefully, as service lines and locations have separate intakes.
- Complete the application thoughtfully; it's your first strengths screen.
- Submit as early as possible in the cycle.
- Practise the game-based format before your invitation arrives — you'll typically receive it within days of applying.
What happens after you apply
The assessment link usually follows within days. Finish it promptly, then prepare for the video interview while you wait — turnaround between stages can be fast. The full journey from application to offer often spans several weeks. If you haven't heard back after a few weeks, check your spam folder before assuming the worst; PwC's emails land there more often than you'd think.
