EY 2027 Applications Guide

EY 2027 Programs & Service Lines Explained

EY's 2027 graduate programs are organized by service line — and each one is effectively a different career. Understanding what each service line actually does day-to-day is the difference between a convincing application and a rejected one.

This guide covers the 2027 intake at EY — applications open in 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis, so applying early gives you the strongest chance. Confirm exact dates on EY's official careers page.

EY Assurance (Audit) Program

The largest intake. Assurance teams audit the financial statements of major companies — testing controls, verifying balances, and working on client site in teams. Day-to-day: client work, documentation, professional skepticism. You will study for a professional qualification (ACA, CPA, or local equivalent) alongside the job.

  • Suits: Detail-oriented people who like structure and working in teams
  • Interview focus: Motivation, teamwork examples, basic commercial awareness
  • Hours: Busy season (typically Jan–Mar) is intense; the rest is manageable

EY Tax Program

Corporate tax compliance and advisory, international tax structuring, transfer pricing, and private client work. More analytical than audit, more specialized earlier. You will also pursue a professional tax qualification.

  • Suits: Analytical thinkers who like technical depth and puzzles
  • Interview focus: Why tax specifically (not just "finance"), analytical examples
  • Note: The hardest service line to justify without genuine interest — "I find tax law interesting" needs evidence

EY Consulting Program

Business transformation, technology implementation, data and AI, risk consulting. Project-based work with varied clients — the closest Big 4 equivalent to strategy consulting. Smaller intake than Audit, higher competition.

  • Suits: Problem-solvers who like variety and client-facing work
  • Interview focus: Case-style questions, structuring ambiguous problems, teamwork
  • Hours: Project-dependent; can spike during go-lives

EY Strategy and Transactions (SaT) Program

Deals-focused: valuation, M&A advisory, restructuring, transaction diligence. The most "investment banking-adjacent" service line — and the most competitive per seat. Interviews test commercial awareness and sometimes technical finance knowledge.

  • Suits: Candidates who want deals without the IB lifestyle
  • Interview focus: A recent deal and your view on it, valuation basics, motivation
  • Competition: Highest applicant-to-offer ratio at EY

EY Graduate vs Internship vs Industrial Placement

  • Summer internship: Penultimate-year students; pipeline to graduate offers
  • Graduate program: Final-year students and graduates; the main entry route
  • Industrial placement: 12-month sandwich-year placements (UK); excellent conversion rates

FAQ

Which EY service line pays the most?

Starting salaries are broadly similar across service lines. Long-term, SaT and Consulting tend to outpace Audit — but choose based on fit, not pay rumors.

Which EY service line is easiest to get into?

Assurance has the largest intake and therefore the most seats, but "easiest" is misleading — each line selects for different strengths. Our guide to choosing the right EY program helps you match your profile.

Can I switch EY service lines after joining?

Internal mobility exists but is not guaranteed and usually requires a business case after 1–2 years. Choose carefully at application.

Does EY require a specific degree?

No — EY hires from all disciplines. Numerate degrees help for SaT; otherwise, evidence of interest matters more than subject.
