BCG Casey 1-Minute Video Recommendation: How to Nail It in One Take
The BCG video recommendation is the final segment of BCG's online case: after solving the case through the chatbot, you get a single recorded take to deliver your recommendation to the "client." There is no re-record button — one stumble, one ramble, one blank second, and the damage is permanent.
What the BCG Video Recommendation Is
At the end of the Casey chatbot assessment, the interface switches to your webcam. You are given a short preparation window, then you record up to 60 seconds delivering your final recommendation as if presenting to the client team. This is not an introduction video or a personality clip — it is a business recommendation, and it is scored as one.
Most candidates treat the video as an afterthought — backwards, since it's the only communication sample in the assessment.
What the BCG Video Recommendation Assesses
The video recommendation assesses executive communication under pressure. BCG is checking four things in 60 seconds: a clear, confident recommendation stated up front; two or three supporting reasons grounded in the case data; acknowledgment of the key risk or trade-off; and delivery — pace, eye contact, and the absence of filler words and hedging.
The scoring is brutal because the format is unforgiving. Rambling for 40 seconds before stating your conclusion, reading notes off-screen, freezing mid-sentence, or running over time all signal weak communication. BCG consultants present to CEOs; this segment tests whether you can already sound like one in a single take.
How to Nail the BCG Video Recommendation
The winning formula is rehearsed structure, not improvisation. Memorize a 60-second skeleton: "My recommendation is X. First, [reason with number]. Second, [reason with number]. The main risk is Y, which we mitigate by Z." Practice it against a timer until you can fill it with any case's content in under a minute.
Then practice on the real case format. Our BCG prep tutorial includes the HireQuo Online Case with real questions and answers, the Consulting Career Assessment, and the Quantitative Reasoning Test — so you can run full chatbot simulations and practice delivering your video recommendation against actual BCG scenarios instead of made-up ones. Do at least ten full timed runs: case through chatbot, then straight into a one-take video with no pause between.
One take is all you get, so make the first take your tenth rehearsal. Candidates who record their first-ever video recommendation inside the real assessment are gambling their 2027 intake on an untested skill. The ones who pass treated the video as a drill: practiced, timed, and automatic before Casey ever asked.
FAQ
How long do I get to prepare before recording? A short prep window — exact timing is shown in the interface. Memorize your structure skeleton so you only fill in content.
Can I re-record the BCG video recommendation? No. It is a single take. Once you submit, that recording is what gets scored.
Should I look at the camera or at my notes? Look at the camera. Glancing at notes is acceptable; reading from them is not.
Does the video matter as much as the case analysis? Yes — possibly more. It is the only communication sample in the assessment, and weak delivery can undo strong analysis.
