Bank of America’s 2027 Video Interview is not asking whether you like working with people. This prompt tests whether you can diagnose what the team needed, act without making yourself the hero, and prove that the group performed better.
The real question
The wording matters, so keep the full prompt intact:
Describe a time where your ability to be a true team player helped lead your team to success.
How you lose points
- Starting too early: You spend most of the answer explaining the project and leave little time for your behavior.
- Offering personality labels: Calling yourself supportive or collaborative gives the interviewer nothing to verify.
- Avoiding disagreement: A friction-free story fails to show how you work when priorities, standards, or workloads collide.
- Using an invisible outcome: You report that morale improved but cannot tie that claim to delivery, quality, speed, or stakeholder feedback.
- Presenting leadership as control: You assign tasks and overrule others instead of showing listening, adjustment, and shared ownership.
How you pass
Build the answer around a coordination problem. Describe what each person brought to the task, where the handoff failed, and the specific move you made to restore progress. Your result should prove both team success and the usefulness of your intervention.
Consider a hypothetical product case competition. One teammate had strong customer research while another had built the financial model, but their recommendations conflicted. You scheduled a twenty-minute test of the two core assumptions, asked both teammates to agree on a decision rule, and rewrote the final narrative around the winning evidence. The team delivered a coherent pitch and answered the judges’ challenge without contradicting itself.
- Use a scene with genuine interdependence.
- Explain the tension without blaming anyone.
- Describe one or two actions in concrete sequence.
- Credit the expertise that other people contributed.
- Close on the result and the lesson you now apply.
The useful distinction is between being agreeable and being effective. Bank of America can assess effectiveness because your answer links conduct, coordination, and outcome.
